Our one-year training program, now in its thirteenth year, trains students to detect cancer, its precursors and other medical disorders. Students will learn to perform a variety of diagnostic and research procedures in the cytology laboratory, including microscopic examination of human cellular material and processing and staining of cytologic specimens. The student will be trained to assist at special procedures such as fine needle aspirations and will be exposed to new technologies in cytology. The School of Cytotechnology accepts students through the California State University, Dominguez Hills, School of Health, Clinical Sciences division Bachelors of Science and Masters of Clinical Sciences programs. CSUDH will grant academic credit for the year of clinical training in the School of Cytotechnology. This academic credit may be used as the fourth year of undergraduate work leading to a baccalaureate degree in Clinical Sciences or as graduate credit towards a Master's degree in Clinical Sciences. Non-CSUDH students may also, on occasion, be accepted to our certificate program. Certificate applicants must posses at least a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. Individuals must have at least 20 semester (30 quarter) hours of biological sciences and 8 semester hours of chemistry. The program currently accepts six students per year.
