Recent Awards and Accomplishments

CONGRATULATIONS to Mary Atz, a recipient of the 2006-2007 "Certificate of Distinction in Teaching" award. The “Certificate of Distinction in Teaching” is awarded by the UCLA Life Sciences Division, based on outstanding teaching evaluations over the past academic year.

Mary, a second year student in the laboratory of Dr. Elaine Reed, received the honor in recognition of her mastery of the course subject matter, her skill in the classroom, and her commitment to students. The award is a testament to Mary’s exceptional abilities and effort, and we are all very proud of her accomplishment and special contribution to the quality of the student experience.
CONGRATULATIONS to Mary Atz, for receiving a prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Fellowship award.  Mary is a second year Ph.D. student in the laboratory of Dr. Elaine Reed.  Mary’s translational research project is focused on functional proteomic analysis of antibody mediated rejection in cardiac transplantation.

We are pleased to announce the selection of LIMING PEI for the prestigious 2006 CMP SARKARIA Award for Outstanding Student Research in recognition of his notable contributions to research in diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Liming began his graduate studies in the UCLA ACCESS program in 2000 and subsequently joined the laboratory of Dr. Peter Tontonoz for completion of his doctoral work. In addition to his recent Nat Medicine paper, he has two first author papers and 7 coauthored papers from Peter's laboratory. Liming’s achievements and contributions to science and the department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine are an excellent example of dedication, hard work and an outstanding creative intellect.

Liming was presented with an honorarium, Certificate of Excellence Award and a plaque commemorating his achievement at the 2006 CMP Orientation and BBQ event on October 4th.
