PRE AND POST DOCTORAL TRAINING Opportunities for pre- and post-doctoral training are extensive in the Department. Most faculty members supervise graduate students who undertake a program of study leading to the Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Pathology. In addition, faculty members in the department also participate in the Medical Scientist (M.D./Ph.D.) Training Program in which students enroll in a coordinated program that trains them in both basic research and clinical medicine. The UCLA STAR Program provides the opportunity for fellows those with the M.D. degree to obtain the Ph.D. degree concurrent with their advanced fellowship training. Finally, Departmental laboratories offer a rich environment in which advanced, postdoctoral training can be conducted. Each program is discussed in more detail below.
